Imperial Commercials opens Bristol’s first ATF for trucks and coaches 14 November 2012

Truck dealer Imperial Commercials has opened Bristol's first purpose-built, privately-owned testing facility for lorries, buses and coaches.

The firm, which has invested more than £160,000 in its ATF (Authorised Testing Facility), is based at Days Road, and it is offering commercial vehicle tests initially on Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursdays.

David Lewis, Imperial Commercials regional director, says it's all about giving commercial vehicle customers a 'one stop shop' for all maintenance, repair and testing needs.

He adds that the new test lane is housed in a purpose-built unit and features a 15-metre inspection pit, as well as new testing equipment, including brake roller and headlight alignment testers, and shaker plates.

"The benefit of offering operators [and local third parties] MOT testing at the place of MOT preparation is something we recognised early on," comments Lewis.

"This is our sixth opening," he continues, adding: "An ATF will not suit all premises, due to return on investment considerations. But this new purpose-built facility is set up for maximum throughput and our plans are to open similar facilities next in Swindon and Worcester."

"Imperial Commercials' ATF in Bristol ... offers a truly comprehensive service," comments Alastair Peoples, VOSA chief executive.

"As such, it's exactly what we were looking for when we embarked on this process, and represents valuable additional testing capacity.

"New testing facilities like this one are making life easier and more convenient for local operators in the Bristol area."
