Independent Glass returns to Ryder for first 7-tonners31 May 2017

Glasgow-based Independent Glass has expanded its fleet with 7-tonners to service growing demand for deliveries in and around cities.

Supplied by Ryder on a three-year contract hire with maintenance, the two Iveco Daily 70C 180 vans have automated gearboxes and have been fitted with internal and external glass racks.

One of the new vehicles is based at the operator’s Glasgow facility and the other at its Mansfield site, which serves the London area.

“A lot of the product we carry is long pieces of glass and we use 16-tonners and 26-tonners. However, recently we’ve been doing a lot of site deliveries in city centres, so we needed vehicles that could handle the length of glass but were more suited to city centres,” says George McCallum, group transport manager.

The operator’s 36-strong fleet ranges from 3.5-tonne vans to 44-tonne trucks, and all are supplied by Ryder.
