IRTE 2013 conference to reveal transport solutions 22 May 2013

Transport professionals from some of the biggest names in the business will be speaking at this year's IRTE Conference on 11 September at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon.

The conference – entitled 'Cost-effective and efficient fleet management and operations' – will play host to operators including Wincanton, Lafarge, Sainsbury's, Fowler Welch, KBC Logistics – all prepared to share the secrets of their success.

And with topics ranging from the real engineering and cost implications of Euro 6 (chaired by Andrew Nicol of world-renowned Ricardo) to experience to date with longer semi-trailers and hybrid trucks, as well as the truth about the range of technologies aimed at reducing fuel consumption, this promises to be the most valuable transport management and engineering event of the year.

Other key sessions include: a legal update on transport managers' responsibilities, in light of recent warnings from the traffic commissioners; as well as insights into IRTE's Workshop Accreditation and irtec schemes. That expert panel includes senior traffic commissioner Beverley Bell and VOSA chief exec Alastair Peoples.

Additionally, delegates will get a first hand update on the new Centre for Sustainable Road Freight, from director David Cebon, professor of mechanical engineering at Cambridge University and director of the new centre, who will reveal strategies that cut transport costs and emissions, while also improving efficiency.

"The only way to achieve very deep reductions in CO2 emissions from the road freight sector is to combine highly-focused vehicle engineering with systematic improvements to freight distribution systems," insists Professor Cebon.

Sponsors of the event include G-Volution, TRW, Pirelli, CVL and Bullwell Trailer Solutions, with Mobil Delvac in a supporting role.
