Over the course of a single day test, both master technicians and apprentices go through a battery of challenges, depending on their discipline – mechanical, electrical or bodywork.
Monday saw six teams competing, four from RATP Dev London and two from Go Ahead London.
Rick Weller, Engineering Manager at Go Ahead London, said: “Our team are really enjoying themselves. They are finding it challenging, but it lets them put their skills and knowledge to the test. Both of my apprentices competed last year and one of them, Jamie Wright, was runner-up. It will give them confidence to go back into the workshop and use new skills they have learnt here today.”
On day two of the IRTE Skills Challenge, teams from First Bus UK, Arriva UK Bus and Arriva Bus and Coach checked in to the Automotive Academy in Bristol.
There were five teams on day three: Tower Transit Singapore flew in for the event, making their debut appearance, and were joined by Edinburgh-based Lothian Buses, Abellio, Metrolink London and Tower Transit UK.
Today saw First Eastern Counties, Trent Barton, Translink and Bournemouth Transport compete.
