IVECO and Electra accelerate production of fully electric Eurocargo range03 February 2020

IVECO has announced it is to begin production of Eurocargo glider chassis at its factory in Brescia, Italy, as part of its collaboration with Blackburn-based converter Electra Commercial Vehicles.

Electra is now offering fully electric Eurocargo vehicles with gvw from 7.5 to 19 tonnes.

The move to production of a dedicated glider chassis – vehicles without a powertrain – will support faster delivery times to customers, says the manufacturer.

Sid Sadique, chairman of Electra, says the firm added the Eurocargo to its range because the IVECO model is perfectly suited to electrification and offers maximum bodybuilding flexibility.

He says: “Since adding the Eurocargo to our range, interest has spiralled and we literally can’t build them quickly enough. This is the perfect medium weight truck for city deliveries and we’re confident we’ve created a game-changing commercial vehicle fit for the future.”

Power is provided by an electric traction motor which delivers up to 350kW of peak power and 3,400Nm of peak torque, or continuous power of 260kW and 2,060Nm of torque. Electra offers customers a choice of lithium iron phosphate batteries, including 140kWh, 205kWh, 225kWh and 287kWh.

Recharging time for a 205kWh vehicle is approximately five hours at 44kW.
