Iveco and FPT set sail for 2014 Dakar rally13 December 2013

A ship containing Iveco vehicles taking part in the 2014 Dakar Rally has left France and is sailing to South America, the sixth time the rally has been held there.

The Iveco De Rooy Petronas team will start the rally on 5 January in Rosaria, Argentina, ending on 18 January in Valparaiso, Chile.

Iveco and FPT Industrial are official sponsors of the Iveco De Rooy Petronas team for the fourth year, providing vehicles and engines.

Team leader and winner of the 2012 Dakar event Gerard de Rooy will be driving an Iveco PowerStar; Hans Stacey is at the wheel of an Iveco Trakkar Evolution 3; with Pep Vila and Jo Adua in a Trakker Evolution 2.

The vehicles are equipped with FPT Industrial Cursor 13 engines. Each 13-litre unit can deliver up to 900bhp and a maximum torque of 3,800 Nm at 1,100 rev/min.

In a bid to improve safety for drivers and spectators, the 2014 rally features more route variations for the cars, trucks, motorcycles and quads taking part.
