Iveco Daily helps transportation of tents 18 April 2011

A new 7-tonne Iveco Daily is helping Yorkshire-based PapaKåta to carry larger loads when transporting its modular Kåtas – teepee style tents pioneered by the Sami people of Lapland.

The company hires out these stylish structures for events including weddings, festivals, parties, corporate events and product launches.

PapaKåta previously relied on its fleet of 3.5-tonne panel vans and 4x4s operating with trailers, but found itself needing to transport larger loads more frequently in a single vehicle.

Its new Daily 70C18, the company's first ever Iveco, features a crew cab that can transport a team of seven to the site, with equipment. The chassis has been mounted with a bespoke curtainside body manufactured by Martin Williams of Hull, making it ideal for transporting the teepees and materials such as staging, tables and chairs.

Richard Monaghan, joint director of PapaKåta says: "The majority of our work is within about three hours' drive of Yorkshire, but our expertise with teepees means we can be booked for jobs across the UK and Ireland.

"The Daily gives us a versatile vehicle for eating up motorway mileage, plus with the manoeuvrability to position the vehicle precisely once we arrive on site."

Supplied by North East Truck & Van, this crew cab was specified with a locking differential to aid traction when it leaves the tarmac – a common requirement when PapaKåta is setting-up and de-rigging. It also provides more than 4.4 tonnes of body and payload capacity.

The Daily 70C18 is powered by a 3.0 litre diesel engine capable of producing 176hp between 3,200 and 3,500rpm and up to 400Nm of torque between 1,250 and 3,000rpm, driven through a six speed manual gearbox.

Monaghan says the flexibility of this engine is illustrated by the constant maximum torque it delivers over a wide range and from the lowest engine speed.
