Iveco secures Stralis order from haulier James Wilby 17 February 2012

West Yorkshire-based haulier James Wilby has taken delivery of Iveco Stralis from local dealer Northern Commercials – the first to join its current fleet.

The arrival of the Stralis Active Space Super³ tractor unit introduces a second truck marque into the 38-strong DAF-dominated fleet, which comprises tractors, rigids and drawbars.

Keith Shaw, managing director of James Wilby, says: "Northern Commercials brought a Stralis over to show me and I decided to give one a try. We'll be putting [it] through its paces to see how it performs against our existing DAFs."

And he adds: "First impressions have been positive, but we need to wait for the engine to run-in before we can compare the two on fuel."

The Iveco Stralis twin-steer tractor unit (AS440S45TX/P) is plated at 44 tonnes and is likely to remain on the fleet for between eight and nine years, covering up to 80,000 miles a year, he says.

It will operate across the UK, with a mix of flatbed and curtainside trailers, transporting goods that range from steel to greetings cards.

Power is provided by an FPT Industrial Cursor 10 engine, capable of producing up to 450bhp between 1,550 and 2,100rpm and up to 2,100Nm of torque between 1,050 and 1,550rpm.
