Iveco vehicles drive off for 2015 Dakar Rally 05 January 2015

The 2015 Dakar Rally began yesterday (4 January) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, with three participants driving Iveco vehicles.

As sponsor of Team Petronas De Rooy Iveco, the truck manufacturer has supplied a sleeper-cab version of the Iveco Powerstar for the team's lead driver Gerard De Rooy. Another Powerstar is being driven by Hans Stacy, with the third member of the team, Pep Vila, at the wheel of a day-cab Trakker Evolution 3.

Both Iveco and FPT Industrial are supplying vehicles, engines and parts.

As well as the rally trucks, six support vehicles complete the team line-up and include an 8x8, four 6x6s and one 4x4.

The rally vehicles are equipped with FPT Industrial Cursor 13 engines, delivering up to 900bhp. The in-line, six-cylinder engines feature the common rail HD injection system, guaranteeing pressures up to 2,200bar.

The 37th staging of the race starts and finishes in Buenos Aires, with the 9,000km route going across challenging terrain through Chile and Bolivia.
