Iveco’s fuel-beating EcoStralis offer ends 06 February 2012

Twelve months after launching its three-year/400,000km deal on the EcoStralis heavy truck – under which Iveco guaranteed at least 4% fuel savings against all UK-sold competition – Iveco has now withdrawn the offer.

According to product director Martin Flach, the initial offer served the purpose of drawing attention to the EcoStralis fuel-saving measures – so the programme has done its job.

In fact, Iveco still believes the truck's potential to cut fuel bills is closer to 8%, in line with trials conducted by the independent TÜV SÜD, which demonstrated a 7.32% improvement between EcoStralis and unnamed competitors' comparable trucks.

The former guarantee applied only to EcoStralis fitted with fuel-saving measures, such as the 460bhp engine, eco-friendly gearbox setting and revised rear axle ratio. It was also only available to fleets where heavy trucks spend at least 55% of their working day on motorways and dual carriageways – the conditions that allow the enhanced efficiency of Ecostralis to be best achieved.

For this year, Flach says, operators can expect "modular flexible packages", which he believes they will find at least as attractive.
