James Nuttall goes for Mercedes Euro 6 New Actros on fuel and Adblue results12 June 2014

Operator James Nuttall (Transport) has purchased two Euro 6 Mercedes-Benz New Actros rigids, after a four-week trial revealed what it describes as significant fuel and Adblue savings.

Supplied by dealer Enza, the 26-tonne 253L models are the Rochdale-based operator's first Mercedes trucks for more than 20 years.

Both have StreamSpace cabs and lifting rear axles with single tyres, while the curtainside bodies were built by Lawrence David.

The New Actros trucks are powered by 320bhp straight-six engines, with eight-speed PowerShift 3 automated transmissions.

The haulier placed its order after a trial vehicle lived up to the manufacturer's promises, says managing director James Nuttall.

"Fuel economy was as we'd been led to expect, and certainly favourable, the New Actros returning an average over the period of 11.6 mpg, and a weekly high of 12.4 mpg," he explains.

"What struck me particularly, though, was the AdBlue consumption, which was significantly lower than we're used to seeing from our Euro 5 trucks."

Another Euro 6 marque was trialled, he adds, but once the Mercedes R&M costs were factored in, the five-year package proved unbeatable.

The vehicles will be inspected and serviced at Enza's Trafford Park branch.
