John T Evans Haulage takes new Montracon pallet semi-trailers 09 July 2013

Within a few weeks of putting its first Montracon double-deck curtainsider (as launched at the CV Show, earlier this year) into service, John T Evans Haulage has taken delivery of a second for its pallet work.

The Barry Docks, South Wales, based operator and Palletways member says it ordered the new trailers, because of their significant benefits in terms of reducing wear and tear on the curtains, trimming turnaround times, improving safety and increasing load capacity.

"Certainly, the faster turnaround times and increased load capacity combine to give us an edge on vehicle productivity," comments John T Evans Haulage director Martin Chalke.

"We save on curtain repair costs and trailer down time – and anything that improves safety of the loading and unloading process has to be good."

In operation, he says the curtains draw fully back to behind the trailer rear panel to leave both sides of the trailer clear. Out of harm's way, the risk of the curtains or poles being snagged or damaged by a forklift is virtually eliminated – as is the risk of toppling pallets.

"Based on our experience so far, there is every possibility that, when renewal comes due, the remaining nine double deck curtainsiders in our Palletways fleet may be replaced by the new Montracon model," states Chalke.

"These trailers are the way to go for pallet services."
