Latest bus and coach orders for Volvo26 February 2016

Belgian bus operator TEC has placed an order for 11 Volvo 7900 electric hybrids and 2 automated bus chargers, by ABB.

TEC is buying a turnkey solution: for a fixed monthly cost, Volvo manages vehicle servicing, battery maintenance and maintenance of the standard-based charging stations.

The vehicles will go into operation later this year. They can run emission-free for 7km, with fast charging at the end terminals. The vehicles also feature a small diesel engine, to extend reach and flexibility.

The 7900 (pictured), says Volvo, consumes 60% less energy than a Euro 6 diesel bus and emits up to 90% less carbon dioxide.

Closer to home, Northumberland operator Coopers Tourmaster has ordered a Volvo B8R SC5 to expand its fleet.

This is the third Volvo vehicle to join the fleet and, says Coopers’ managing director John Cooper, “Volvo was the only choice for us”.

“We have operated a mixed fleet for many years, but the outstanding service from the Volvo team ... has ensured that our last three coach purchases have all been Volvo.

“We needed a quality vehicle that would be reliable, fuel efficient, had a strong kerb appeal and was slightly shorter than an average coach making it easier to navigate on narrower roads.”

“We are looking forward to taking delivery of our new coach in April.”
