LC3 takes first 50 Iveco Stralis LNG Euro 6 trucks 26 September 2014

Logistics firm LC3, which specialises in temperature-controlled transport and container trucks, is buying 50 Iveco Stralis LNG (liquefied natural gas) Euro 6 trucks, just weeks after the first five were put on the road.

The deal follows the opening of the first ENI LNG station in Piacenza, Italy and is the latest phase in LC3's ongoing project to equip its fleet for alternative fuels capable of reducing the vehicles' environmental impact.

The Stralis Natural Power LNG is powered by a 330bhp Cursor 8 CNG (compressed natural gas) Euro 6 engine.

LC3's vehicles are being fitted with a 510 litre cryogenic LNG fuel tank and four70 litre CNG tanks, providing for a range of more than 750km.

Iveco makes the point that natural gas is significantly cheaper than diesel, so reducing fuel costs being by up to 40%.

In terms of emissions, natural gas engines are also much cleaner than diesel engines, typically seeing particulates down 95% and NOx down 35% compared with the best that Euro 6 diesel has to offer.
