Lidl chooses Iveco for Italy’s largest LNG truck fleet 04 December 2014
Lidl Italia has ordered a fleet of 15 Iveco Stralis Natural Power heavy trucks, with engines powered by LNG (liquefied natural gas), manufactured by FPT Industrial.
This deal with the multi-national supermarket chain is the result of Iveco (the commercial vehicles brand of CNH Industrial) collaborating with temperature-controlled logistics specialist LC3.
Starting next year (2015), Lidl Italia will operate the largest natural gas fleet in Italy, with management by LC3.
The 15 new trucks – which are part of an order for 50 Stralis LNG vehicles Iveco is delivering to LC3 – will be equipped with Cursor 8 CNG (compressed natural gas) Euro 6 engines.
Natural gas is one of the cleanest fuels on the market, significantly reducing environment emissions.
Compared to diesel, LNG results in 95% less particulates, 35% lower NOx and up to 10% less CO2.
Iveco says gas trucks are also some 20% cheaper to run.
