London Concrete rates DAF for payload and performance23 April 2018

Pre-mixed concrete supplier London Concrete has added 11 DAF New CF 8x4s to its fleet, citing vehicle payload and dealer support as key reasons for the deal.

The New CF 450 FAD 8x4 mixers are going into service at several of the operator’s 12 production plants across the capital.

The New CF chassis are equipped with lightweight mixer drums, with the combination enabling London Concrete to maximise payload, according to head of transport Steve Carter.

The FORS Silver and CLOCS-accredited operator also rates the New CF’s standard day cab: “It has great window size and the glass door panels are perfectly positioned to help drivers look out for vulnerable road users,” says Carter.

“What isn’t always appreciated though is that we deal in a highly perishable product, but now with the New CFs we can achieve ... full compliance, top payload and reliable performance.”

London Concrete specified 450bhp models for the latest order, as some of its facilities are located outside the capital in hilly terrain. “It might seem odd, but the 450 engine is great at coping with the inevitable congestion in town, as it becomes a ‘lazy’ engine and very economical, especially with the latest TraXon automated gearboxes,” he says.

“We used to spec 360 as our average horsepower, but the New DAFs offer us the best of both worlds – all the power we need, with good fuel and driver comfort under all conditions.”
