MAN apprentices honoured at awards ceremony 12 August 2013

Truck manufacturer MAN has rewarded the best of its next generation of transport technicians at its annual apprentice awards, this year staged at Aston Villa Football Ground.

The event was a chance for MAN to commend not only those completing its courses, but also the trainee technicians and engineers who have now finished their first and second years on its programme.

During the event, John Davies, head of UK service at MAN, pointed out that apprentice technicians put in more hours of training than airline pilots do to get their wings.

He also revealed that 22 students were completing the MAN apprentice programme – run in conjunction with S&B Automotive Academy in Bristol – while the intake for 2013 is set to rise to around 60.

From the final year intake, Darren Guild, from MAN Truck & Bus Fife, and Aquilla Trucks' Greg Middlecote were the winners in the 'parts, distribution and service apprentice' and 'apprentice service technician' categories, respectively.

Other winners from the two other years included: James Hamilton, of Steadplan Clitheroe; Ben Jones, of Cordwallis Group, Heathrow; Stephen Ball, of MAN Truck & Bus Manchester; and Adam Nelson, MAN Truck & Bus Preston.
