McIntosh Heavy Logistics is first for new D38 engine 23 December 2015

Heavy and abnormal loads specialist McIntosh Heavy Logistics is the first in UK to take delivery of a MAN TGX 41.640 tractor unit with new D38 15.2 litre six-cylinder in-line Euro 6 engine.

The Aberdeen-based firm specified this factory-built 8x4 tractor – which is plated at 41,000kg gvw and 250,000 kg gtw – with the XXL high roof sleeper cab on a 5,450mm outer axle spread wheelbase with steels front and rear.

Its power unit offers 640bhp at 1,800 rpm and is capable of delivering 3,000Nm of torque between 930 and 1,400rpm – in this case, driving through MAN’s 12 Speed AS 3041 OD TipMatic equipped with converter-clutch unit and Intarder.

“The extra torque offered by the D38 will allow us to shift loads of around 230 to 250 tonnes, so we will be putting it through its paces and keeping it busy with loads of over 100 tonnes on a regular basis,” comments director Bert McIntosh.

“We have MANs in our current fleet, but this is the first with the new engine and we are looking forward to watching it prove itself,” adds co-director Gary McIntosh.

“The marques offering these specialist vehicles are limited, but we felt MAN was the best for us,” he adds.
