McPherson takes delivery of UK’s first Volvo FM LNG tractors12 February 2019

Bulk spirit logistics provider McPherson has taken delivery of two Volvo FM LNG (liquefied natural gas) tractor units – the first to go into service in the UK.

Supplied by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland, the Aberlour-based operator’s new additions are 6x2 pusher axle Lite tractors powered by Volvo’s G13C engines, and driving through I-Shift automated 12-speed gearboxes.

The Sleeper Cabs are equipped with full aerodynamic kits and are specified with One Bed Resting and High Power Audio packages. The chassis specification also includes Jost JSK36 Sensor fifth wheels and Alcoa aluminium wheels.

Both vehicles are ADR specified for transporting distillery by-products and will operate on runs to and from Scotland’s central belt.

“We are double-shifting the new FM LNG trucks seven days a week,” says Martin Brown, McPherson’s managing director.

“At present the two are transporting distillery by-products, but they are both equipped to full ADR specification for bulk spirit movements.

“Our company ethos is to constantly push the technology boundaries to offer McPherson customers the very latest sustainable logistics solutions – the FM LNG vehicles fit that aim.”

The new additions are supplied with four-year Volvo R&M contracts.
