Memorial Foundation donates over £22,000 to UK charities10 October 2012

The Allan Burton Memorial Foundation, set up in memory of Thompson's co-founder Allan Burton, has raised over £22,000 to support leading UK cancer charities in under two years.

Administered by Allan's daughter Candice Parr, the Foundation has a particular focus on helping children and the families of children who have to cope with living with this awful disease.

For CLIC Sargent, the Foundation has donated £10,000 towards Paul's House, CLIC Sargent's newest 'Home from Home', which opened in London in September 2010.

Almost £11,000 from the Foundation has also been donated to the Great Ormond St. Children's Charity for the specific purchase of an incubator for neo-natal patients. Over 100 tiny patients a year require the support of one of these specialist instruments. Another £1,500 has been donated to Macmillan Cancer Support which provides individual grants and much needed direct financial support to people living with cancer anywhere in the UK.

"As well as having an extraordinary zest for life, Dad always had a particular interest in 'what comes next', so his love for children and subsequent encouraging of children to find their way around the many difficulties and obstacles that life presents was a constant theme of his life," explains Parr.

"In particular, he was also acutely aware that there are no braver, more positive or more dedicated people than families that have to struggle, live with, and overcome all the difficulties of children living with cancer," she adds.
