Mercedes-Benz Econic stars at Lord Mayor’s Show 17 November 2015

Last weekend’s 800th Lord Mayor’s Show in London played host to the latest in safer lorry technology, in the shape of an 18-tonne 4x2 Mercedes-Benz Econic 1830 skip-loader.

Designed to be cyclist- and pedestrian-friendly, the truck features a low-height, fully glazed cab to maximise visibility to the front and sides.

It also has a low seating position, unimpeded cross-cab vision, and full air suspension for relatively quiet operation.

Also available in 6x2/4 26-tonne configuration, and as an 8x4 32-tonne factory conversion, the Econic was designed for refuse and recycling vehicle usage in the municipal sector.

However, Mercedes is now marketing to the truck to other sectors, notably construction, with novel Econic-based tippers, mixers and skip-loaders on offer through associated bodybuilders.

The first Econic construction chassis to work on behalf of the City of London Corporation is currently in build.

A 32-tonne Econic 3235 tipper-grab, it was ordered by highways contractor JB Riney from dealer S&B Commercials, and is due to enter service early in the New Year.

“We’re delighted that one of our Econics was chosen to take part in the 800th Lord Mayor’s Show,” states Basil Vinnicombe, head of special products at Mercedes-Benz Trucks.

“As well as offering the outstanding build quality, efficiency, environmental compatibility and comfort for which Mercedes-Benz vehicles are renowned, this vehicle also reinforces our reputation as a leader in the quest for road safety,” he adds.
