Mercedes delivers long-life product for Scottish dairy business31 December 2014

Milk and dairy product supplier Graham's the Family Dairy has taken delivery of eight Mercedes-Benz Atego rigids and a 26-tonne Antos, all with Thermo King refrigeration units.

Supplied by dealer Western Commercial, the Ategos are a mix of 7.5 and 13.5 tonne and, along with the Antos, join the Bridge of Allan-based operator's 150-strong fleet.

Four 7.5-tonne Atego 816s are powered by four-cylinder engines rated at 156bhp, while the four 13.5-tonne 1318s have 177bhp engines.

The Antos 2532 has a 7.7-litre, six-cylinder engine rated at 320bhp. All the trucks have standard fit Powershift 3 automated gearboxes.

The insulated, temperature-controlled bodies are by Tekbo, of Clydebank.

Graham's group transport manager Kenny Kentley says price, fuel efficiency and reliability have been key factors in his decision to buy Mercedes trucks for 15 years.

"They typically perform solidly over a long working life," he says. "We've just stood down some vehicles that were 12 years old – we'd intended to retire them sooner but they just kept going!"
