Metcalfe Plant likes ‘user-chooser’ Loadmaster tippers 27 March 2014

Metcalfe Plant of Penrith has taken delivery of a pair of 360bhp Scania tippers bodied with Thompsons Loadmaster tippers, each specified for different roles.

Company owner Tony Metcalfe went for the Loadmaster Lite for general purpose tipping, because of its all-steel construction, single skinned body, which offers the combination of strength, durability and high carrying capacity.

However, he chose the Loadmaster Full Spec for the firm's heavy work, because of its extra, full-length internal steel skin and two front corner posts.

"We chose [the Lite] version of Loadmaster for general, mixed traffic tipping, where loads are typically muck, stone and crushed recycled materials," confirms Metcalfe.

"However, we needed an even stronger body for our really heavy work, such as site work and demolition. For these jobs, it had to be Loadmaster in Full Spec."

Metcalfe also specified Thompsons' latest dual-purpose tailgate, designed to enable easy discharge of any type of load.

"By developing a really clever tailgate design that combines a conventional top hinged arrangement with an alternative wide-open barn door system, Thompsons has given us a body offering the greatest possible operating versatility" states Metcalfe.

"Really heavy, bulky loads, such as demolition spoil, concrete and wire, need a completely open body when tipping out. So with this tailgate and body combination, we have a truck that can load and tip absolutely anything."

Metcalfe explains that topping the new bodies off are Harsh stabilised under-floor tipping gear.
