Michelin’s tyre management is ‘perfect fit’, says Abbey Logistics30 March 2016

Liquid, bulk powder and palletised road transport business Abbey Logistics has signed a tyre management deal with Michelin Solutions for its 730 commercial vehicle assets, describing the package as “a perfect fit”.

The price-per-vehicle deal covers all 300 of its tractor fleet, along with 430 tankers, reefers and curtainside trailers.

Paul Jamieson, Abbey’s finance controller, says Effitires is ideal for Abbey’s diverse operations: “We provide temperature-controlled logistics, and also operate bulk powder, liquid and palletised transportation networks throughout the UK and Europe.

“With such a hard-working and wide-ranging fleet, we need tyres that offer excellent longevity, safety, durability and on-road performance – and a tyre management programme to match.”

With Effitires, he says, “everything just stacks up”.

Abbey commissioned independent tests on Michelin products, to ensure it was selecting the most fuel-efficient tyre possible.

Jamieson explains: “We commissioned the British Transport Advisory Consortium to run tests on Michelin products... a weekend’s testing was carried out at the MIRA proving ground to ensure our decision was cost effective and right for the ‘green culture’ within our business.”

ATS Euromaster will fit and maintain the tyres; Michelin Solutions will perform tyre safety inspections.

Abbey will also use Michelin Remix tyres under the contract – retreaded fitments that promise near-new performance levels. Remix tyres can also be regrooved, further extending each casing’s lifespan.
