Mid UK Recycling pits Renault against MAN and Scania tractors 27 March 2015

East Midlands-based Mid UK Recycling has taken delivery of two 44-tonne Range T460 6x2 units with hydraulics for its 70-strong, Scania-dominated fleet.

Supplied by Thompson Commercials, Boston, they have joined the firm's transport division, Mountain Transport and are being used coupled to Legras FMA15 moving floor semi-trailers.

They are the first supplied with factory-fitted load indicators, showing both the unit's and trailer's weights on the dashboard.

According to Nick Mountain, transport director at Mountain Transport, the new trucks are being assessed against a Scania and an MAN for fuel efficiency, driver acceptance, service and downtime.

"We have previously had a great experience with a Renault Premium and have recently read great things about the new Euro 6 vehicles – and had a favourable demonstration," states Mountain.

"It was these factors, together with a great package from Thompson Commercials, that persuaded me to go with the two Renault Range T vehicles," he continues.

Mountain says he also like the spec and was particularly impressed with the gearbox.

"We are closely monitoring the fuel consumption and our drivers have been given Renault Trucks' Optifuel training to help them get the best from the vehicle, and to further help them understand the principles of driving economically," states Mountain.

"Although it's early days, I am impressed so far as they are achieving half a mile to the gallon better fuel returns compared to the Euro 5 trucks. I'm confident that they're going to give an even greater mpg as the engines bed in."
