Minister awards Van Excellence certification at CV Show 13 April 2011

Transport minister Mike Penning awarded Van Excellence certificates of accreditation to AAH Pharmaceuticals, Enterprise Managed Services, Iron Mountain and the London Borough of Redbridge when he visited the FTA's stand at the CV Show, NEC yesterday (12 April 2011).

Van Excellence is the industry-led initiative to raise standards and improve the image of the UK's van sector and currently represents 13 organisations operating more than 22,000 vans – with 80 more in the pipeline.

Penning also used the opportunity to comment on the FTA's Logistics Carbon Reduction Scheme.

"The fact that it already covers nearly 40,000 vehicles, and will expand to cover more, will help to provide a detailed picture of the quantity and trend of carbon emissions by the freight industry and show that it is capable of working together, voluntarily, to tackle its harmful emissions," said Penning.

"The scheme is the first of its kind for the freight sector, and should deliver real progress toward the UK's carbon reduction targets."

"We are grateful for Mike Penning's support for Van Excellence, which endorses the degree of seriousness with which industry has embraced this key FTA initiative," said James Hookham, FTA's managing director for policy and communications.

FTA is using the CV Show to launch its new Guide to Van Excellence publication for van operators – part of the association's Van Excellence initiative.
