MLG Transport branches out with first Volvo truck25 June 2018

Elgin-based haulier MLG Transport has taken delivery of a Volvo FH-500 tractor, its first Volvo vehicle, for use on its timber transport operation.

Supplied by the Inverness branch of Volvo Truck and Bus North & Scotland, the new addition has a Globetrotter cab on a 6x2 rear steer, tag axle chassis, and is powered by a D13K engine producing 494bhp, coupled to a 12-speed I-Shift automated transmission.

The hydraulically-steered tag axle and drive axle are both fitted with a Tireboss tyre pressure control system, which has eight pressure settings for on or off-road operation. The FH also has a Jost JSK fifth wheel, a hydraulic kit and extra chequer plate chassis infills.

The interior features a single bunk, leather seats, fridge and microwave.

Michael Gradon, partner at MLG Transport, says: “It’s early days yet, but so far, so good. The driver likes it and the I-Shift gearbox seems particularly refined.”

The vehicle has been specified with a three-year Volvo Gold R&M contract, “an attractive option, both operationally and financially,” according to Gradon.

It also comes with Volvo’s Dynafleet fleet management system, giving real-time visibility via the Dynafleet app.
