Morrisons deploys Microlise to drive down costs and carbon 08 December 2015

Morrisons has now completed deployment of its Microlise telematics system across the 545-strong fleet of HGVs and says it is expecting to reduce fuel costs while also maximising vehicle uptime and cutting carbon emissions.

Nick McCurtin, head of central logistics at Morrisons, explains that the supermarket group selected Microlise’s fleet performance and journey management software.

Following a competitive tender process, it was deployed within six weeks of signing the order – including integration with Paragon’s fleet controller system, he says.

“Having an effective and efficient fleet to resupply our 500-plus stores up and down the country is key to keeping shelves stocked,” comments McCurtin.

“Implementing Microlise helps us to do this in the most cost effective way, while limiting our environmental impact,” he adds.

McCurtin explains that the new telematics system includes A-G ratings to measure drivers’ performance on fuel efficiency, with ruggedised Microlise DriveTab tablets also used for two-way messaging and vehicle checks.

And he adds that in the second phase of deployment, Morrisons will also use it for manifest management, with guided routes for drivers to follow.

The journey management software gives Morrisons’ stores and transport management staff real-time visibility of vehicles vs the plan, alerting stores to an incoming arrivals and allowing management to maximise fleet utilisation.
