Muldoon offers extra stability for tippers 16 November 2012

Bodybuilder Muldoon has developed a product that it claims provides a long-awaited solution to stability and safety during tipping.

Its Tip-Safe has been developed for use on tipping trailers or tankers that use mechanical or pneumatic discharge methods, tipping from a static position.

The device incorporates hydraulically-operated stabilisers linked to the trailer's ECU. These allow tipping to take place on ground with a gradient of up to 4°.

Muldoon chief designer and managing director Gerald Muldoon explains that by adjusting the stabiliser legs, using levers at the rear of the trailer, a trailer can be evened up to datum level.

The ECU prevents the trailer from being tipped unless it is at an angle of less than 1°. A secondary warning light illuminates if the trailer is outside this envelope.

Whilst tipping, a safety lock also ensures that the adjustment levers, which operate the stabilisers, cannot be tampered with.

"This new product represents a great breakthrough in the safety of tipping trailers, especially in the farming and building industries where the ground is not always level," comments Muldoon.

"We have seen many trailers tip over," he continues. "At a weight of 250kg, the penalty is minimal in comparison to the safety benefits it offers."
