New Actros rigid leads to cost savings for LJA Miers 16 May 2013

St Neots, Cambridgeshire operator LJA Miers is reporting improvements on many fronts from its latest fleet addition – a Mercedes-Benz 18-tonne New Actros 1842.

Not only did the company's new truck cost less to buy than an equivalent vehicle from its nearest (unnamed) rival, but the company believes it will also be cheaper to maintain and repair.

Managing director Andrew Miers also says that the New Actros is already outperforming its predecessor, in terms of fuel efficiency, by a full 2mpg – despite the 12-litre, 420bhp power unit being substantially bigger than its 360bhp, 9-litre unit.

"Our last vehicle returned 12mpg, which we thought was good. But the New Actros has recorded 14mpg, which represents a very significant saving, especially given that it covers a lot of miles," comments Miers.

"Its purchase price was also lower than the latest version of the truck we'd used previously, as are the R&M costs," he adds.

"Combine those two factors with the savings we're making on fuel and it's easy to see why we're so pleased with the latest addition to our fleet."

The new Actros was specified with a BigSpace cab and was supplied by Wellingborough dealer Intercounty Truck & Van, while its curtainside body was built and fitted by Kurt Hobbs Coachworks, of Great Addington, Northamptonshire.
