New device puts brake on fifth wheel coupling risk04 March 2014

Bristol-based Viqle Solutions has launched a new safety device for fifth wheel coupling, called SafeConnect.

SafeConnect works by ensuring the tractor and trailer cannot inadvertently move while the driver is away from the cab coupling up.

A pneumatic valve is positioned under a trailer, close to the fifth wheel coupling. The system works by blocking airflow to the trailer via the emergency line, ensuring the tractor and trailer cannot move while the driver is away from the cab.

Once the driver presses the foot brake, air is released and the trailer brake returns to normal.
