New guide from LowCVP shows van fleets how to go green11 June 2015

The Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership has published a Low Emission Van Guide, aimed at operators of small to medium-sized fleets with vans up to 3.5 tonnes gvw.

The guide explains the business and environmental reasons for using low-emission vans, and includes case studies – in one example, it shows how an operator could save over £18,000 in whole-life costs by replacing one diesel van with a battery-powered electric model.

The publication aims to help fleet managers choose the most suitable low-emission van technology or fuel type for their operation. It covers electric, plug-in hybrid, LPG, CNG and biodiesel.

LowCVP has also launched a web tool to enable operators to calculate running costs and carbon emissions.

The van market is the fastest growing sector of UK road transport, with vehicle numbers increasing at 3.5% per year and accounting for more than 14% of CO2. The sector is almost entirely (96%) diesel-powered and half the vehicles are owned by companies.
