New ownership for Sparshatts of Kent04 April 2018

Mercedes-Benz Trucks dealer Sparshatts Truck & Van has been acquired by a team that includes the manufacturer’s truck sales dealer of the year.

The deal completed on 27 March for an undisclosed sum.

The major shareholders in the Kent-based dealer are entrepreneur Steve Rooney and his brother Paul, who has worked for Sparshatts for almost 35 years, most recently as its truck sales manager.

Other shareholders are financial director Peter Davies, who has worked with the Rooney brothers for the last 10 years, and chairman Sid Sadique, who is also group managing director of NRG Fleet Services and Riverside Truck Rental.

“This acquisition marks the culmination of a long-held dream for Paul and I,” said Steve Rooney (pictured, right, with Paul Rooney, centre, and Peter Davis).

“We have exciting plans for major investments in our people and in our facilities, and are looking forward to working in a spirit of close partnership with the team at Mercedes-Benz Trucks HQ.”

Sparshatts of Kent employs 200 people and posted a £76m turnover last year. Founded in 1975, it trades from headquarters in Sittingbourne, with other branches in Ashford, Dartford and Tonbridge.

Now focusing on the sale of Mercedes-Benz and Fuso trucks, Sparshatts will continue to provide 24-hour maintenance and repair back-up for vans, as well as for heavier commercial vehicles.
