Norbert driver picks up first petroleum driver passport 24 January 2014

A tanker driver for Norbert Dentressangle has become the first in the UK transport sector to be awarded a petroleum driver passport (PDP).

Barry Boreham, who is based at the logistics firm's Thurrock distribution operation, successfully completed both the practical and full written assessments, which form part of the training scheme launched on 1 January.

All PDP candidates are independently assessed by SQA, an accreditation body appointed by the Downstream Oil Distribution Forum to manage the scheme on its behalf.

The PDP scheme has been designed to give assurance to fuel terminal operators, customers and the public that all tanker drivers have a common core of tested knowledge and competence for loading, driving and off-loading fuel tankers. It operates to a five-year renewal cycle, in line with ADR, and annual refresher requirements that can be aligned to Driver CPC. The PDP consists of both classroom and practical elements.
