Operator orders 24 Wrightbus StreetDecks ahead of launch27 October 2014

Brighton & Hove Bus and Coach Company, part of the Go Ahead Group, has ordered 24 Euro 6 Wrightbus StreetDeck integral double deckers ahead of the vehicle's official launch at the Euro Bus Expo show next month (4-6 November, NEC, Birmingham).

The StreetDeck is powered by a 5.1-litre Daimler Euro 6 engine and, says Wrightbus, delivers better fuel economy and emissions thanks to its combination of low weight, efficient driveline configuration and technology advances.

Brighton & Hove has specified the vehicles to seat 81 passengers, with an overall capacity of 90-plus. Its vehicles will also be fitted with a Voith D854.6 four-speed automatic gearbox. A ZF six-speed automatic gearbox is also available.

The StreetDeck power pack is mounted on a removable cassette, giving easy access for servicing and maintenance. Auxiliary power consumption is reduced thanks to separate coolant and charge air radiators with electrically-powered cooling fans.

Martin Harris, Go Ahead's engineering director, says he had no hesitation placing the order ahead of launch, after seeing the vehicle in various stages of development.

"We have been particularly impressed by the design approach and fuel-efficient combination of the new technologies and lightweight materials used in the new StreetDeck," he adds.

The vehicles will be delivered between February and April 2015.

A twin-door version to TfL specification – seating 73 passengers and 26 standing – will also be available from this autumn.
