Optare Direct supplies second new bus to PeoplesBus 30 April 2010

The first Solo SR on Merseyside has been supplied by Optare Direct to fast-growing PeoplesBus.

The 33-seater 9.6 metre Solo SR is the second new bus to be bought from Optare Direct by this independent Merseyside bus operator in just a few months.

This bus is powered by a Mercedes-Benz OM904LA engine delivering 115kW (154bhp) matched to an Allison 2100 Series five-speed transmission.

Livery is PeoplesBus blue and pink, and the vehicle has been equipped with Mobitec LED destination equipment, including front, side and rear displays.

The seats are Esteban, with blue LED under-seat lighting, and other equipment includes a Look CCTV camera system, while on the exterior there are extra rear marker lights and additional side indicators.

PeoplesBus managing director Andrew Cawley says explains that this Solo SR joins a fleet of 14 vehicles that also includes Optare Solo, Excel and Tempo models.

"From an operational point of view, the Solo is good on fuel and straightforward to service and maintain with parts and service back-up from the company being particularly good," he says.

"Passengers, particularly those with reduced mobility or young mums with buggies, like the low access of the Solo SR and the flat floor throughout the lower part of the saloon, which makes it easier and safer for them to move to and from their seats," he adds.
