Supplied by Renault Truck Commercials, 20 44-tonne Range T460 6x2 tractor units have gone into operation with Owens’ retail division on double-shift, 24/7 duty across South Wales, London and the Midlands.
The vehicles have been supplied on a full three-year contract hire basis through BRS and are being supported by Renault Truck Commercials Cardiff.
Operations director Ian Owen says: “Following our recent rebranding from Owens Road Services to the Owens Group and hitting £50 million turnover, we were looking to expand our fleet as well as update some of our older models. Our business is extremely competitive so we need to be at the very top of our game.”
He continues: “Attracting and retaining the best drivers to our company is fundamental to the success of our business. Having the best trucks on the market helps us to achieve this objective and the new tractor units have been enthusiastically received.”
The vehicles are already achieving 9.5 mpg after a few weeks, adds Owen, “which we expect will improve further as the vehicles run in”.
