Paragon is a virtue for Eden Farm’s fleet efficiency26 June 2015

Frozen food and ice-cream distributor Eden Farm has upgraded its Paragon fleet routing and scheduling system, enabling the company’s planners to process data up to five times faster than before.

The Peterlee, County Durham-based business has used Paragon software since 2011, but recent expansion meant it needed an upgrade to boost transport efficiency and customer service.

After adding Paragon's Inrix-based road speed data and Here map content, Eden Farm has now upgraded the system to Paragon 5.80, which features better algorithm performance, according to the software supplier.

"This means our customers are now seeing even faster matrix calculations, which result in quicker routing," says Phil Ingham, Paragon's support director. "Users also gain instant visibility into actual operations, providing customers like Eden Farm with the intelligence to respond to issues as they arise."

Eden Farm generates its own user-defined daily reports and KPI summaries, enabling analysis of cost per drop, cost per kg delivered, miles per drop and miles per kg delivered. Eden Farm also uses the system to update annual revenue for each client every time an order is imported.

All vehicles in the operator's fleet are equipped with tracking units and it has portable units for hire vehicles, which it uses to boost capability at peak times.

"We have found that processing speeds are much quicker with version 5.80," says Robert Gee, Eden Farm's strategic manager for IT and operations.

"We have significantly expanded our business and, despite the substantial increase in the volume of delivery data processed, the new Paragon software is around five times faster, which saves our planners a considerable amount of valuable time."
