Paragon upgrades Fleet Controller to take CanBus data 02 June 2015

Telematics provider Paragon has announced an upgrade to its Fleet Controller system, which can now receive CanBus data from tracking/telematics systems, as well as GPS GPS tracking data, ignition status and odometer data from in-vehicle units.

Where the telematics unit records driving style events, such as harsh braking, over-speeding, excessive idling time, freewheeling and over revving, this data is now interfaced into Fleet Controller together with the usual GPS, distance and ignition information.

The map display, says Paragon, can be used to debrief drivers on their return to improve future performance. The system indicates which stretch of road any over-speeding, harsh braking or excessive idling events took place, and identifies any diversions from the planned route.

In total, 12 driving style measures are taken, which can be reported individually by driver or journey, or can be amalgamated as a single weighted 'CanBus penalty points' score.

Journey and driving style data can be sent to the transport manager automatically, triggered by the vehicle on its return to the depot.

"One of the major benefits of Paragon Fleet Controller is the driver-debrief information it provides," says Phil Ingham, Paragon's support director.

"But now it's also possible to see the key driving style measures and, if necessary, replay the route with the driver to see where they occurred. Having this information all in one place makes life a lot easier for the transport manager."
