Simon Elliott

Previous MD of MAN Truck & Bus, Simon Elliott, has renewed his association with Mercedes-Benz parent Daimler by taking up the position of managing director at one of the manufacturer’s franchised commercial vehicle dealerships, Intercountry Truck & Van of Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.

Other previous roles include CEO of Volkswagen Group Ireland, managing director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, and he also served as an executive at Daimler Chrysler. He said: “The foundations for success are already in place. My job is to provide leadership, and to ensure that customer service remains at the very top of the agenda as we address those issues which have been holding us back.”

Zöe Murray-Ross is the new head of enforcement for DVSA. She joins following 18 years in the British Army, which, after leadership training at Sandhurst, was mostly spent in the Royal Military Police. That includes operational tours to Northern Ireland, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan. Throughout her career, she has overseen and managed large volumes of investigations, ranging from military offences – fighting and drunkenness – to low-level civil offences, like assault and theft. She says that the role of head of enforcement, which involves managing staff investigating non-compliance and fraud, amongst other things, fit well with her previous experience.

Axis Fleet Management sales and marketing director, Leigh Goodland, has been promoted to the role of managing director. The Oxfordshire-headquartered business specialises in long-term contract hire and fleet management services, operating over 3000 assets including trucks, trailers, and rigids. Recruited in March 2017, Goodland has been a key figure in the restructuring of the business in the ensuing months. Prior to joining Axis, he accumulated more than 15 years of industry experience in senior roles at MAN Truck & Bus UK, Isuzu Trucks UK and Cordwallis Vehicle Contracts.

Krone has appointed a new area sales manager to join the UK trailer team. Allan McKee takes on responsibility for maintaining existing accounts and generating new business in the northern home counties and parts of the south Midlands, as well as all of South East & South West of England. McKee comes from a family haulage background and began his career in the UK CV industry as an area sales manager at Scania and soon progressed through the ranks to become a director for a group that were in haulage, storage, truck rental and supply, as well as having a strong nationwide contract maintenance operation. Later he set up and developed a trailer export business, before returning to work once again in trailer sales and cryogenic refrigeration.

Reed Boardall, the Yorkshire-based cold food storage and distribution business, is celebrating the long service of five employees who are each marking at least 30 years of working for the business. Finance assistant Jane Nelson, fleet manager Frank Appleton, compliance manager Denzil Cooke, night manager Stephen Bull and trainer Stuart Turnbull all joined the family firm in Boroughbridge back in the 1980s. Denzil Cooke explains why he has remained loyal to the company for so long: “Even after 30 years here, every day poses fresh challenges. It’s a great business which has been built over many years with input from the team and there’s a real feeling that we are all contributing to its continued success.” With a 780-strong team, it is one of the biggest employers in the area and has built up a loyal workforce. The team includes 175 employees who have been with Reed Boardall for over a decade as well as 27 staff who have completed 20 years of service. Operating 24/7, its 180-strong fleet of vehicles moves up to 12,000 pallets a day and it stores around £100m worth of products on behalf of its customers. It is based at a single site in Boroughbridge, Yorkshire.

Mike Harvey, proprietor of Harveywood Training & Assessment (www.harveywood.org.uk), has been approved by IMI for irtec inspection technician accredititation. He said: “As a smaller independent, we can be fully flexible in our delivery model and more able to meet the needs of our customers. For example, we can offer assessments on night shift, which I think is unique in the industry”.

Brake component manufacturer TMD Friction has appointed Sue McKay as UK distributor sales manager for its commercial vehicle brands, Textar and DON. With almost 20 years’ experience in the commercial vehicle aftermarket, Sue brings a wealth of experience gained from key roles held at Roadcrew Solutions – a division of Volvo Group UK, Valeo, ArvinMeritor CVA Ltd and Unipart Commercial Vehicles T/A Truck & Trailer Components.

Allison Searle has been named chief commercial officer of Transwide and Teleroute. In this new role, she will be in charge of scaling up the global sales team in order to accelerate growth for the company’s transport management software and freight exchanges, leveraging over 20 years of experience in sales and marketing of software solutions.
