Prometeon rolls out new tyre range for electric buses - UPDATED06 March 2020

Prometeon Tyre Group is releasing a new range of tyres designed for the extra load capacity of electric buses.

Prometeon says the new tyre, the MC:01 e-Urban, overcomes the challenge of the additional weight of battery packs and gives a load capacity of up to eight tonnes per axle.

The MC:01 e-Urban has up to 10% less rolling resistance than its predecessor, says the company, and is the only one of its type to be graded B for energy efficiency.

The tyre is marked M+S and 3PMSF and is suitable for all axles, according to Prometeon (formerly the commercial and industrial tyre division of Pirelli).

The additional load capacity comes from an optimised sidewall and structure design, which also enhances retreadability. The mould profile and new tread pattern geometry provide maximum traction and tyre durability, adds the tyre maker.

“We have succeeded in developing the new Pirelli-branded MC:01 e-Urban, with such outstanding performances thanks to the latest Prometeon technology innovations, applied to tread pattern, structure and compound,” says Alexandre Bregantim, Prometeon’s chief technical officer.

UPDATED 12/3 4:04 pm: Corrected rolling resistance statistic; the new tyre has reduced, not increased, rolling resistance compared to previous models.
