Ramsey Timber branches out with three more Volvo trucks18 September 2015

Bradford-based Ramsey Timber Group has taken delivery of two Volvo FE 6x2 rigids and an FM 6x2 tractor.

Supplied by dealer Crossroads Truck & Bus, the FE rigids are powered by D8K engines rated at 280bhp and feature 8.5m curtainside bodies by Micra Truck Bodies, of Wakefield.

The FM tractor is powered by a D11K engine producing 410bhp, will join another FM at the company hauling curtainside trailers.

“We have been operating our original Volvo FM since 2011 and we’ve been so happy with both the truck and the support that we’ve received from Crossroads Truck & Bus that when it came to increasing our fleet capability we had no hesitation in sticking with what we know,” says Neil Marklew, transport and warehouse manager.

“Our first impressions of these new trucks are very good. Our drivers really like the simplicity and fuel efficiency of the I-Shift gearboxes and the low noise levels and superior comfort further enhance the easy driving experience.”

Marklew adds that he is already using Volvo’s Dynafleet online fleet management system, but is looking forward to tapping into the system’s full capabilities once he has had advanced training.

The rigids are expected to cover 50,000km a year, while the FM tractor will top 70,000km.

All three trucks are covered by five-year Volvo Gold R&M contracts.
