Reed Boardall switches to bespoke telematics for reefer fleet21 January 2015

Chilled food distributor Reed Boardall has expanded its use of Seven Telematics software to incorporate Cool Track remote monitoring on 60 of its 280-strong trailer fleet.

The operator already uses Seven's Transcan 2 data logging system, so when it decided last year to switch from its existing trailer tracking supplier, the company evaluated the Cool Track system.

"The first trial Cool Track units went into service during last year and performed really well in our fleet operation," says Marcus Boardall, Reed Boardall's group finance director.

Thirty Cool Track systems were installed last year, with a further 30 being implemented this month.

Seven Telematics designed a bespoke data feed to collect and store Transcan data on Reed's in-house computer system at its traffic office in Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire.

The combination of Transcan and Cool Track gives Reed Boardall real-time temperature monitoring of its fleet.

"We have our own front-end system for the refrigerated trailer fleet that can take data from a variety of telematics devices, so the switchover to Seven Telematics for remote trailer tracking and monitoring took place with absolutely no interruption in service at all, which was an essential factor for us," adds Marcus Boardall.
