Regulator calls time on HGV driver for serious drivers’ hours breaches10 July 2017

HGV driver Jason Treharne has been banned from professional driving for 18 months after a string of drivers’ hours breaches, including driving for 85 hours in a four-day period.

Kevin Rooney, traffic commissioner for the West of England, said Treharne “posed a grave road safety risk” with his persistent offending, falsifying records and going “to great lengths to hide the true facts of his driving”.

At a public inquiry, the regulator heard that Treharne had used another driver’s card to conceal his actual hours while working for Gilders Transport.

As well as banning Treharne for 18 months, the traffic commissioner curtailed the operator’s transport licence by 20% and disqualified its transport manager Shaun Gilmour for three years.
