Renault in it for the long haul with Optifleet upgrade22 June 2016

Renault Trucks is extending its Optifleet onboard telematics solution with new functionality which, it says, will enable fleet managers to more accurately assess the performance of drivers on long-haul operations.

Fuel consumption is not only affected by driving behaviour, but also by the load, route and traffic conditions, argues the firm.

French company Inter-Légumes has now trialled the new system over several months on 55 Renault Trucks Range T vehicles in its fleet.

“This new Optifleet functionality means much more than just bare fuel consumption statistics, as it makes monitoring and communicating with our drivers so much easier,” reports Christophe Boulicaut, an instructor with Inter-Légumes.

“It really shows if the driver is making the best use of the truck, enabling us to have discussions based on accurate figures and above all, objectives,” he continues.

“Furthermore, I can access each driver’s performance in just a few clicks, enabling me to rapidly identify areas that can be improved. Every month, I post every driver’s scores and we reward the one who comes out best.”

The reports indicate drivers’ performance via a rating, a colour code (green, orange or red), a general classification and the trend. Fleet managers can download weekly or monthly PDF reports or view them on their mobile phones.

Renault Trucks says the intelligence behind its reporting is based on an algorithm developed by the firm building its 20 years’ experience in economic driving.

The new function is included in Renault’s ‘Check’ module at no additional cost for every Optifleet haulier and, with existing users automatically getting the display on their usual portal.

“No other supplier includes this level of fuel management commitment to their customers free of charge,” asserts Nigel Butler, Renault Truck UK’s commercial director.
