Renault trucks deliver for Hermes29 November 2013

Delivery business Hermes has added Renault trucks for the first time into its 600-strong DAF dominated fleet.

Following a tender process, BRS was awarded the contract to supply 17 Renault Premium 430.18 4x2 tractor units on a five-year contract hire, as well as 10 Renault Midlum 180.12 12-tonners with box bodies and tail-lifts on a six-year contract hire.

The 12-tonne Midlums join the company's 400-strong radial fleets in Thurrock, Swindon and Dunstable.

For Hermes, volume is key, which is why the company is moving from 7.5 tonnes to 12 tonnes for its radial fleet.

"Our Midlums will be fitted with a 25ft body with tail-lift, a big body for a 12-tonner, but for us it's a volume game," states Rob Elmore, fleet services manager.

"12 tonnes is a very important and a growing sector for us that delivers extra capacity, payload and productivity," he says.

Elmore adds that fuel performance was a key factor in his decision: "The time was right to try a different supplier and a different make of vehicle to ensure that we are getting best value in the market.

"We evaluated total life costs, including fuel consumption and reliability, and BRS with Renault Trucks offered a good solution."

The Renault Premiums went into operation in October, working from Hermes' hubs at Warrington and Nuneaton.

Part of the company's 200-strong trunking fleet, the Premiums transport sorted parcels for leading high street, catalogue and online retailers to Hermes' nationwide network of local depots.
