Safety in numbers: CLOCS vehicles on display at CV Show15 April 2015

Visitors to this week’s Commercial Vehicle Show (14-16 April, NEC, Birmingham) can see examples of how the CLOCS – Construction Logistics and Cycle safety – standard is boosting road safety, with two CLOCS supporters demonstrating the benefits on their stands.

Insurance firm Towergate is co-hosting a stand (5D29) with CLOCS and FORS (Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme), where visitors can see a new Mercedes mixer vehicle, designed to improve safety for vulnerable road users.

"Our aim at the show is to demonstrate to those operators who aren't already on board, how many options are out there for them to easily ensure their fleets are as safe as possible," says Towergate's Jo Grosvenor.

Elsewhere, Mercedes-Benz – an early supporter of CLOCS – is exhibiting its 4x2 Econic skiploader vehicle on an indoor stand (5D10), and the Econic 8x4 tipper in the outdoor display area.

The manufacturer's new range of Econic vehicles offers higher payloads and has been designed to improve the driver's ability to spot cyclists and pedestrians. Vehicles already in operation include a tipper, mixer, skiploader and curtainsider, with each featuring a low-entry cab with bus door, a large glass area and a lower driving seat position to make it easier for the driver to make eye contact.
