Safety is driving force behind Nynas' decision for Volvos 20 January 2010

Bitumen supplier Nynas UK has taken delivery of another six Volvo FM tractor units, citing build quality, safety, parts support and backup as key reasons for sticking with Volvo.

The units are part of the Cheshire-based company's vehicle replacement programme for its 42-strong fleet.

Nynas distribution manager Ernie Dixon says: "Quality and safety are two of the core values that Nynas and Volvo share. [They] were put to the test only recently, when a tractor unit and tanker was involved in an M6 motorway roll-over incident. Thankfully, the driver suffered relatively minor injuries."

The new tractors, supplied by Thomas Hardie Commercials, are all 6x2 Volvo FM-440 Globetrotter-cabbed units, specified with its lightweight mid-lift axle, enabling them to run at the UK 44-tonne limit.

Serviced and maintained in-house at Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, the vehicles can be seen operating nationwide, distributing bitumen, a binding agent for asphalt, throughout the UK's quarries.
