Saudi Arabia orders 350 Volvo trucks 04 November 2010

Zahid Tractor, Volvo Trucks distributor in Saudi Arabia, and Al Ayuni Investment & Contracting Co have signed a deal for 350 trucks from the Swedish manufacturer.

Most will be the new Volvo FMX, which are due to be deployed kingdom-wide for projects ranging from road construction to railways. They are already rolling out of the Jeddah-based Volvo Trucks assembly plant, Arabian Vehicles Industries (AVI).

Engineer Abdul Karim Al Ayuni, deputy chairman of the Al Ayuni board and board member designate, says that selecting the FMX truck followed a series of qualifications and assessments, centred on safety and quality. The truck wil have to withstand heavy loads, poor roads and challenging hilly terrain.

Al Ayuni is going for trucks equipped with the automated I-shift transmission, to replace aging units of various brands.
