Scaffolder has nifty lift with pre-bodied Fuso Canter23 August 2018

Edinburgh-based City Access Scaffolding has taken delivery of its first Fuso Canter, after trialling a demonstrator and finding the 3.5-tonner to be more than up to the job.

Supplied by Western Commercial, the operator’s Canter 3C13 has been pre-bodied at Fuso’s production facility in Portugal, by Italian manufacturer Scattolini.

The truck has a 3.0-litre engine producing 128bhp and is paired with a dual-clutch Duonic automated transmission – the 3C13 model is also available with a five-speed manual gearbox. A Canter 3C15 3.5-tonner is also available, with a 148bhp version of the same engine and the Duonic system only.

“We’ve specified our own with the Duonic system, which is proving a wise decision – there’s so much traffic in and around Edinburgh these days that it’s a relief not to be constantly dipping a clutch,” says Jonathan Allan, co-founder of City Access.

“The Canter’s excellent turning circle is also a big advantage in tight spots.”

The truck is subject to an Agility funding agreement from Mercedes-Benz Financial Services and Allan adds: “The fact that our Canter came pre-bodied from the manufacturer was a definite plus in terms of reduced hassle. The finance was also competitively priced and simple to arrange.”

Early signs are positive and Allan says a second Canter could be on order “before too long”.
